Title IX & Sexual Misconduct

Cornell Office of Civil Rights

Accommodations

One common supportive measure that the Title IX Office assists with is the faciliation of academic accommodations.

Members of the University community who have experienced any forms of sexual and related misconduct, or who are parties to a formal complaint investigation, are entitled to seek support through Cornell Office of Civil Rights, including requesting academic accommodations. When an individual requests an academic accommodation, COCR works with the Associate Dean in an individual’s college to contact the faculty directly. COCR does not inform the Associate Deans of the details of any individual’s experience, and the Associate Dean will not disclose that the request for accommodation was made by COCR.

COCR will work with the Associate Dean to discuss with the faculty member what options for accommodation may be available to an individual. While COCR can request an accommodation, the faculty member and the college have the ability to approve or deny the request consistent with their policies and practices.
